Vintage 18ct Gold Star Sapphire & Ruby Ring
A beautifully understated vintage ring crafted in 18ct yellow gold, featuring an oval cabochon star sapphire surrounded by a halo of fourteen natural rubies in an elegant filigree-style setting.
Refined and feminine, this piece has a classic vintage feel without being oversized, making it perfect for everyday wear or layering with other fine jewellery.
Estimated to date from approximately the 1960s–1980s, this piece came from a family collection and had been passed down through generations, adding to its vintage charm and character.
The centre star sapphire measures approximately 7.24 x 5.50 mm with an estimated weight of 1.11cts. The sapphire displays a bronze-grey tone with the soft, glowing “star” effect known as asterism — a natural optical phenomenon created by fine needle-like inclusions within the stone.
Unlike faceted sapphires, star sapphires are cut as smooth domed cabochons to showcase this unique effect.
Surrounding the sapphire are fourteen round rubies totalling approximately 0.72cts, displaying beautiful natural variation in tone from soft purplish-pink through to rich deep red. The ring itself weighs approximately 3.21 grams and is stamped and acid tested as 18ct gold.
Condition: Pre-loved vintage condition. Two rubies display small chips not visible to the eye and consistent with age and wear. Professionally cleaned and ready to wear.

One oval star sapphire cabochon bezel set in the centre with fourteen round rubies, three claw set in a halo on an open decorative filigree gallery with a2.08 - 2.67 mm wide, 0.67 - 1.14 mm thick half round band with swept up shoulders that meet the halo setting.

Rubies:12@2.00 - 2.25 x 2.00 - 2.25 × 1.60 mm = 0.72cts (average estimated weight) Colours include: 8 @ light-purplish pink, 2@ deep orange-red, 4 @ deep red, heavily included, native cuts. 2 x light purplish-pink rubies are eye-clean.
